Back in July 2025, Fire Guard Services proudly announced a major milestone: achieving BAFE SP203-1 certification for fire detection and fire alarm systems.

Today, we’re delighted to share the next chapter, we’ve successfully passed our first 6-month BAFE review (surveillance) assessment, with excellent results.

Why the 6-month review matters (and why it’s not “just admin”)

BAFE SP203-1 isn’t a one-and-done badge. The whole point of third-party certification is that your processes, competence, and delivery standards must be maintained over time, not just demonstrated on one assessment date.

As part of the scheme, certified businesses are subject to ongoing surveillance assessments, which typically include a combination of document/system review and on-site assessment to confirm the organisation continues to operate to the required standards.

In plain English: it’s independent proof that the quality you were assessed on in July is still being delivered in the real world, on real jobs, by a team that is properly trained, supervised, and working to best practice.

What BAFE SP203-1 covers

BAFE SP203-1 is widely recognised across the UK fire sector because it assesses competency across the key stages of fire detection and alarm system work:

  • Design
  • Installation
  • Commissioning / handover
  • Maintenance

That’s exactly why we pursued the certification in the first place: to provide our clients with confidence that Fire Guard Services delivers fire alarm services with rigor, consistency, and a strong quality management culture, not shortcuts.

What passing the first review means for our clients

If you’re a facilities manager, property professional, business owner, or responsible person under UK fire safety legislation, you already know the pressure that comes with fire compliance: ensuring systems are fit for purpose, maintained correctly, and supported by proper documentation.

Passing our first 6-month BAFE surveillance assessment means you can expect:

  1. Continued competence and accountability
Our systems, procedures, and evidence of compliance have been independently checked, and confirmed as being maintained at the required level.
  2. Reliable design-to-maintenance consistency
BAFE SP203-1 focuses on competency across the lifecycle of a fire alarm system, supporting better outcomes and fewer gaps between install, commissioning, and ongoing servicing.
  3. Confidence during audits, inspections, and contract reviews
Whether you’re preparing for an internal audit, insurer questions, or a visit from enforcing authorities, being supported by a BAFE-certified provider helps you demonstrate due diligence and competence in your supply chain.

A credit to the team (and to our “do it properly” culture)

This result is down to the professionalism of our engineers and office team, and the standards we operate to every day: careful documentation, consistent processes, and a commitment to doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

It also reflects what we said when we first achieved certification: fire safety isn’t an area where you can afford to compromise.
