Falconer School Bushey – Upgrading Fire Safety with a Modern Hyfire Hybrid Alarm System

Falconer School, part of the Hertfordshire County Council network, supports pupils with additional learning needs. Safety and accessibility are therefore of the highest importance. The school’s existing fire alarm system was outdated, unreliable, and increasingly difficult to maintain. Fire Guard Services were appointed to design and install a new Hyfire Hybrid fire alarm system that could meet modern standards while minimising disruption to staff and students.

Designing a Flexible, Reliable System

One of the biggest challenges was that the site includes five separate buildings, each requiring full coverage and connectivity. Our team designed a Hyfire Hybrid solution, which combined the best of both worlds; 90% wireless and 10% wired.

The wireless technology allowed us to protect all areas of the campus efficiently and cost-effectively, without the need for extensive cabling work. This approach reduced installation time and avoided unnecessary disruption to the school day — an essential consideration in live educational environments.

All buildings were networked into a single, easy-to-use system that gives staff full visibility and control, improving both response time and confidence in the event of an alarm activation.

In addition to the new fire alarm system, Fire Guard Services also provided a comprehensive package of fire protection services, including:

Emergency lighting installation and servicing – ensuring safe evacuation routes during power failures.
Fire extinguisher supply, testing, and maintenance – keeping equipment ready for immediate use and fully compliant with safety standards.
Ongoing maintenance and support – providing regular inspections, fast repairs, and dedicated technical advice.
